EXPERTS’ PLAN

BRITISH & FRENCH PREMIERS TO MEET EFFORT TO PREPARE UNDERSTANDING By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. London, May 9. M. Poincare has accepted Mr. Ramsay MacDonald’s invitation to a meeting in England on May .20. “The Times.” (Rec. May 11, 5.5 p.m.) London, May 10. Satisfaction is generally expressed at the coming meeting of Mr. MacDonald and M. Poincare. The “Morning Post’s” Paris correspondent says Mr. MacDonald extended the invitation because the House of Commons was sitting and he could not himself leave London. The . task of the premiers, it is stated, will be to prepare an understanding, which is indispensable if the experts’ plans, are to be put into operation, and it is thought that Mr- MacDonald has chosen the right moment to demonstrate Britain’s goodwill by seeking-a personal discussion and exchange of opinions. It is expected that the Premiers will fix the date for the next inter-Allied conference. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. NO PROSPECT OF EARLY SETTLEMENT OPINION OF PRESIDENT COOLIDGE (Rec. May 11, 5.5 p.m.) Washington, May 9. President Coolidge has announced that a definite settlement of the European reparations problem should precede the calling of a disarmament conference. He sees no prospect of such a settlement for some months to come. —Aus. N.Z. Cable Assn. NEW GERMAN REICHSTAG NATIONALISTS AIMING AT A COALITION London, May 9The Berlin correspondent of “The Times” states that the German Nationalists are tardily realising that eyen they cannot form, a Government without the co-operation of other parties. It is now clear that they are aiming at a coalition with the Centre and People’s Parties, trusting that. they may enjoy the benevolent neutrality of the Democrats on the one hand and the Freedom Party on the other. It is a precarious basis on which to build, even if tho Nationalists should come round to the view that the unreserved acceptance of the experts’ report is the only alternative to confusion. The Centro Party will join in on no other terms, and the benevolent neutrality of the Democrats would not be otherwise obtainable. What the Freedom Party will do remains obscure, but a popular rumour already credits it with preparations for a '“putsch.”-—“The Times.”
