“They’re always howling about something,” was part of the reception accorded the Otago Rugby Union’s protest regarding the All Black selector at the meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union. The remark (says the Christchurch “Star”) is typical of tho attitude taken up for some time past now regarding any suggestions which have come from South Island unions. The men controlling tho game in this island are not likely to forget in. a hurry tho autocratic manner in which the committee in Wellington “managed” tho tour of tho Springboks. There is a strong feeling, which has been growing very rapidly of late, that the time is arriving when there, will be two unions in New Zealand, one the North Island Union and the other the South Island Union, with a New Zealand executive whose headquarters will alternate yearly between each island. The high-handed actions of the governing body are fast driving this issue to a finality. With some twenty players endeavouring to find a place in its first fifteen, tho Hutt Club is in a fortunate position, and iho future looks very bright. Since the erection of the gymnasium attendances on practice nights have been very large. The senior team lins a rather set of lorwarus, but what they lack in weight they make up for in activity. '1 he backs are at present lacking in the finer points of the game, and against Athletic on Saturday the older team was able to show up this fault. Hutt should get hold of a good five-eighths man and tho team would be on the road to better things. The tackling of tho team has so far been excellent, with the exception of the first spell, last Saturday. The club’s new gymnasium will probably ba opened officially on the morning of June 3. ,
