DUPLICATION AT SEAGAR’S CORNER CITY COUNCIL’S ATTITUDE CRITICISED The City Council’s failure to. push ahead with the proposed duplication of the tram track from Seagar’s corner to Todnian Street, Brooklyn, was roundly criticised at the annual meeting of tho Brooklyn District Municipal Electors’ Association, oyer which Mr. J. H. Whittaker presided, last night. A deputation w r as appointed to wait upon tho council and again stress the urgency of the commencement of the work. . The secretary (Mr. J. I. Goldsmith) stated that during the Mayor’s last election campaign ho (the speaker) had asked Air. Wright whether, if elected, ho would go into tho matter of the duplication at Seagar’s corner. An assurance to that effect had been given, but the latest correspondence received from the council showed that the work hud not been authorised. “I think they are shirking their responsibilities,” added . the speaker, “and I think something drastic should be The president agreed that the position was most unsatisfactory. On April 30, 1923, advice had been received from the Town Clerk. stating that the work had been authorised and would be put in hand as soon as possible. Rubenstein was of opinion that Brooklyn should nominate a council candidate of its own for the next election. “Seeing there was all talk and nothing done/’ added the speaker, “I’ll move that a strong deputation wait on the council to stress the necessity of the work being commenced.” The motion was seconded by Mr. Goldsmith, who considered that that course was the only means of securing the duplication. AVith reference to . the children’s playing area at Harrison Street, the secretary read a letter, under date January 29, from the town clerk, stating that the reserves department was about to take over the work. Air. AV. G. Slade reminded, the meeting that the council had placed £250 on the estimates. “It may be forgotten, though.” he added. The president reported that he had received an assurance from Air. McKenzie that as far as his department was concerned, he had received instructions to proceed with the preparation of the ground immediately. Air. Slade: It will bo a big thing for Brooklyn, too.
