HUTT ROAD ACCIDENT

A COMPLAINT. Complaint has been made by Mr. A. B. Sievwright, who is acting for Frank McDevitt in the alleged manslaughter case, that the Press reports at the time of the accident on the Hutt Road contained grave inaccuracies—errors that would now undoubtedly prejudice his client’s case. "I don’t know where they obtained the information from,” said Mr. Sievwright yesterday, “but you only have to read this morning’s Dominion and you will see that the Crown witness, in his evidence yesterday, stated distinctly that the car stopped about 20 yards away, and McDevitt returned with tho party in the car to the scene of the accident and remained there for. from five to ten minutes. From tho evidence placed before the Court it is quite obvious that the reports were inaccurate. I think tho law should bo amended so as to prevent the publication of details before a case is dealt with. It is most important to remember that the newspaper reports are read by those who will ultimately become the jurors at the trial.
