Some amusement was occasioned in tho Supremo Court yesterday by the replies of a witness to remarks from the Bench bv the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout). ''Don’t you know the difference between an old and a new suit of clothes?” asked IDs Honour. Witness. “No. Mr. Stout, they aro all the same to me: I have never been used to good suits, but I can fell when Huiy are absolutely ragged.’’ "Didn’t you have a watch?” was" another auestion put by His Honour later, when an hotel scene was being described? AVitness: "No, sir, T cant afford a watch.” His Honour: "If you can afford liquor you should be able to afford a watch.” Witness: "Tastes differ.” His Honour: "Apparently; how did you know the time, then?” Witness: "I know very well that the clock in the bar was ten minutes fast." (Laughter.) A? resolution was carried unanimously at a meeting of the Hillside and Otago branches of the A.S.R.S. last night. “That haying heard the addresses of the president (Air. Connelly) and executive councillor (Air. Alorison), the members of the Hillside and Otago branches of thte A.S.R.S. thank them and affirm our confidence in the manner in which they handled the recent railway crisis.”—Press Assn.
