Air. Charles Lindsay, of the Christchurch Museum staff, has been appointed taxidermist to the Wellington City Council. A high tribute to th© late Air. W. Cross, chief traffic nspector of tho City Council, who was killed recently while controlling traffic on the Hutt Road, was paid by the Alayor (Air. R. A. AVright) at last evening’s meeting of tho City Council. On the Alayor’s motion a resolution was passed recording the severe, loss the council had sustained in the death of such a valuable officer, and expressing condolence with Airs. Cross. Councillors AL F. Luckie and J. Burns also spoke highly of the late Air. Cross, stressing his devotion to duty and his unfailing tact in controlling traffic throughout the city. Regret was also voiced at tho death of Air. T. AlcTnnes, late caretaker of the Central Library. and a vote of condolence with Airs. Afclnnes was passed. During the absence abroad of the Rev. Father Smyth, the Rev. Father Alaloney, formerly relieving priest at Hastings and more recently of St. Alary of the Angels, AVellington, will act as parish priest at Thorndon.
