The Tararua Electric Power Board has been authorised to purchase the electric works of tho I’ahiatua and Ekctahuna boroughs. A reassuring: telegram has been received from the Prime Minister by Mr. J. A. C. Alliim, president of the Auckland Industrial Association, in reply to the association’s recent protest on the subject of tho port of departure of the Eastern Pacific steamers. Mr. Massey says (reports the “Herald”): “I hope you. understand that as this service is not a subsidised one. wo have not the control over it which otherwise would be tho case: but official information which I have received is to the effect that tho port of departure is fixed for Auckland, so that traders will have less difficulty in keeping their business together than they apparently anticipate.”
