SCHOOL COMMITTEES
At the Parkvale householders’ meeting the following motion avas carried:— “That this meeting of householders considers that the staffing and capitation of the schools should be on tho average roll and not on the average attendance.” I'he follorving new committee was elected;—Messrs. B. Roberts (chairman), A. H. Elkins (treasurer), H. P. Brasell (secretary), P. Davidson, H. Hamilton. The annual meeting of Paraparaumu houeholders «was he’.d on Monday. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £4 Bs. Wd. The following were elected to the committee: JM'essrs. R. G. Maclean, J. W. Buckley. J. C. Kill’ck. C. Clarke, and tho Rev. Watson. Mr. F. Milne presided over tho annual meeting of householders held at Kaiwarra. There was a fair attendance. Keen regret was expressed by those present that nothing further had been done by the board in the matter of the new school, and a strong protest was lodged, which was emphasised by the fact that not one nomination was received for the committee. The meeting unanimously carried a resolution, to forward, to the Prime Minister, a letter placing tile position befor him. hoping in this way ■to arouse tho interest of the Government to the very urgent need for a new school. A vote of thanks was passed to the outgong and social committees, and also to the teaching staff, for their T< Th’e new school committee elected for Ohariu is as follows;—Messrs. L. C. Bryant (chairman and secretary), L. Bryant, G. C. Liddle. F. Rossiter. A fair number, of householders attended the annual meeting of the Ohau School. Mr. C. I- Harkness occupied the chair. Tho chairman s report showed that a good deal of useful work in the way of improving the school grounds had been done during the year. Ilm headmaster’s report showed tho number of scholars on the roll to be 100, and the average attendance 135. The examination results were very satisfactory. Seven scholars sat for the proficiency examination, and all passed except one who gained a competency certificate., J he following resolution was passed: “That this meeting considers that the present system of taking the average attendance as the basis of computing the capitation and staffing of schools is not altogether just, and should be abolished, and tho average roll number made the basis for such computations.” The following committee was appointed for the ensuing year:—Messrs. J. Hammond Murray (chairman), E. J. 11. Trim (secretary and treasurer), J. Cameron, C. I. Harkness, H. J. H. Parsonson, H. Harauti. A. G. H. Bodtey.
