ARCHAEOLOGY AND THE HIGHER CRITICS
Archaeology’s answer to the Higher Critics was the substance of Ltangeiisi Rampton’s Address on Sunday mght at the Princess Theatre. Therewnsa tim . said the speaker, when the critics doubted the existence of Belshazzar, Sa „°1 , the Hettites, the treasure cities of Egy pt, and many other peoples and places menHoned in the Bible. But the critics " ok?too soon. To-day the various museums of the world contained hundreds of tons of such eyidence, on granite, alabaster, wood, clay and papyrus dug out of mounds, tombs and pyramids and translated from tablets, rods, cylinders, statues and temples. So enthusiastic have been the excavators, so patient the decipherers, and so assiduous the scientific journalists, that in countless volumes describing the archaeological finds of the past half-century, the student of the Bible to-day found each of its 66 separate books verified. The speaker commended the Old Book for study and consolation in this age of doubt, and its acceptance and faithful reproduction in the life as a panacea for many of the world’s ills.
