» TILDEN’S RESIGNATION FROM DAVIS CUP ELIGIBILITY NOT QUESTIONED t (Rec. April 27, 5.5 p.m.) New York, April 26. The Davis Cup Committee has accepted Tilden’s resignation as a member of the American team. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. (Rec. April 27, 11.5 p.m.) Now York, April 26. While it is considered to be assured that Tilden will not participate in the Davis Cup, it is indicated that the committee when accepting his resignation reiterated that there was no question of his eligibility to represent the United States. Tilden now has an opportunity of accepting this as defining his standing, which he. demanded. There is a slight hope that he may be induced to withdraw his resignation. Deep disappointment is expressed in tennis circles at Tilden’s withdrawal, the popular regret being widespread. Comment takes the line that the amateur rules committee was undeniably justified in ruling that extensive journalistic endeavours invalidated the amateur standing, but the report was not diplomatic and it could be easily foreseen would hurt the feelings of any player, especially Tilden, who was kr.r.wn to be sensitive. —Aus.-N.Z.
