THE RACING WORLD

FLEET MEETING TO-DAY

NOTES AND COMMENTS

TRENTHAM PROGRAMME TO-DAY’S FIELDS REVIEWED. Th following is the order of events at Trentham to-day:— NAVY LEAGUE WELTER HANDICAP, of

Bright Eves., 8 2 Kilfairo 7 7 If Musical comes down he should be capable of running another good race like he did at the club’s autumn meeting. Spoony and Bright Eyes look the best of the loan] lot.

REPULSE HURDLE HANDICAP, of 300 novi. Ono mllo and a half.

Some of th© acceptors may not put in an appearance. Militaire looks well, and this is the kind of race to suit him. If Silk Rein can jump, she may go well, and if Parorangi’s wind does not give out, there is nothing wrong with his jumping in private. HOOD HANDICAP, of 250 sovs. For two-vear-old«. Five furlouKß.

Mr Jorgensen holds a strong hand with Tutankhamen and Tanadees. On recent track work and form Fool’s Paradise is the best of the local lot. THE ADMIRAL’S CUP. of 500 sovs. One mile and a quarter.

There trill probably be somo absentees. Merry Day’s form over the distance at Tauherenikau on Easter Saturday was very convincing and it looks very much as if she is going to met the same horses again. She has been dropped 31b. from Tauherenikau, Scion 141 b., Bumptious 111 b., Printemps 111 b. and Aeriform 61b. Scion has the biggest margin in his favour and might go well, but anyone who saw the running at Tauherenikau would still think that Merry Day won with a good many pounds in hand. Bumptious, if produced., should run well. CHATHAM HACK HANDICAP, of 250 bovs. One mile.

If Glandhu is present he will no doubt be favourite, but he will have to run well to give away the weight. Star Ranger may go well, and of the others En Route is one of the fastest hacks at Trentham, and with Otaura can be depended, upon to set a solid pace, which may be more than the top weights can stand. THE SAILORS’ STEEPLECHASE, of sovs. Two miles aud a Quarter.

The two top weights have had a fair amount or racing, but Carawock, who ricked himself slightly about three weeks ago has not been overtaxed on the tracks since, and Return's chances look better than his. Dick ran well at Tauherenikau. He haa done a lot of schooling oyer the hurdles at Trentham and his jumping over the fences on Thursday morning was good. ADELAIDE HANDICAP, of 300 sovs. Eix furlongs.

Rational, Santonio, and Quest, have all been racing well recently, and the top-weight, it should be remembered, won at Feilding with 9st. 111 b. up. His form lately has been very encouraging. OFFIGERS’ HACK HANDICAP, of 250 bots. F!v» furloneß •

Piquant is a class above those engaged, but Ma Boughal ran well at Riccarton, and Bonlita at Tauheronikau. Tatrina may upset calculations.

TRENTHAM TRACK NOTES Thursday. The weather was wet for training operations. The grass track was in fair order, with the exception that it was a bit greasy in places. En Route galloped seven furlongs in Imin.. 38sec., moving easily. Fool’s Paradise covered half-a-mile in 50seo. Peach Brandy went the last four of six furlongs in 54sec., aiid Martinique went four in 52sec. All Gold took Imin. 35sec. for seven fvrlcngs, and Entre Nous the last four of six in 53sec. Star Ranger went well over six furlongs in Imin. 18sec. Carawock and Dick were companions in a round over the steeplechase fences, finishing at the brush at die top < f the straight. Dick gave a good display, but Carawock did not show so much dash as usual. Parorangi and . Scintillation went once round over the schooling hurdles, lumping well. Militaire did a similar task very pleasingly and afterwards galloped seven furlongs in Imin. 36sec. Bright Eyes and the Rill gelding, who has been named Kilburn, ran half a mile up the back in 52sec. Friday. There was a very heavy fog yesterday morning which did not clear till after 7 o’clock. The inside of the trial grass and the tan tracks were open. The tan was heavy and most of the galloping was done on tho grass, whioh was in good oi;der. J. i Barry was present and rode work. Poach Brandy and Star Ranger went half a mile together in slsec. Pleasant Surprise and La Reve went on the tan and took 53sec.

Laughing Stock did a half mile in 52jsec.. and Ardfinnan with Stream six furlongs in Imin. 18sec. Parorangi took Imin. 36sec. for seven furlongs. Printemps was better than Scion by a length over seven furlongs in Imin. 32Jsec.. a mseful gallop. All Gold shaped well over seven furlongs alone in Imin. BSJsec., and Elmorz and Idleness were together over four furlongs run in oljsec. Aorifonn went very well over seven furlongs alone in Imin. 31sec., about the best of the morning. Tinohari was better than Lady Gay over a half mile in .50isec. Otaura and Heathcote finished together over a half mile in filiseo. Piquant had Spoony as a companion over four furlongs, and both were going comfortably at the end of the gallop in 51sec.
