PROTECTIVE DECREE (Rec. April 23, 8.5 p.m.) London, April 23. The “Daily Telegraph’s” Athens correspondent says Cabinet has approved a decree for the defence of the republican regime, for ten years forbidding attack thereon by word or writing, the questioning of the validity of the plebiscite, discussion on tho fallen dynasty and propaganda calculated to dissuade citizens from fulfilling their duties io the country, especially in military service. The penalties will be fines or temporary or permanent banishment. Both 'Republicans and Royalists sharply criticise the decree, contending that the existing lav’s are sufficient to protect the republic. The Premier replies that the decree is only a precautionary measure and will not bo rigorously applied.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
