The swimming events last evening resulted as follow:— 50 ynfds handicap—First heat: V. Broughton (9sec.), 1; C. Fordham (3soc.), 2; T. King (6sec.), 3. Time, 34 4-ssec. There were ton starters. Inches separated the placed mon. Second heat: J. Cowdell (Gsec.), 1; .1. Hill (3sec.), 2; H. Little (ssec.), 3. .Timo. 32 3-ssec. Won by a touch. Final: Fordham (Native Department), 1; Broughton (P. and T.), 2; Ilill (P. and T), 3; Cowdoll (P. and T.), 4 Time, 29 2-ssec. Won by a foot. 109 yards handicap—L. R. Davies (Treasury), 22sec., 1; D. Patterson and Income), scr., 2; C. J. Barrett (Public Health), 10sec., 3; J. Burke (Railway Department), lOsec. 4. Davies won by 10 yards. Patterson swam a splendid race. Time, 72 l-ssec.
Motor traffic is more easily handled by the police than the old horse-drawn vehicles. It is only for the last 500 years or so that the English language has been used for letter-writing.
