HELLENIC STATE
NEW OFFICIAL TITLE OF GREECE MOVEMENT TO END POLITICAL STRIFE * MONARCHISTS WILL RECOGNISE REPUBLIC London, March 17. Tho Athens correspondent of “lhe Times” says that there is at last a movement afoot to encl the political strife in. Greece. The originators are moderate monarchists, who realise that even, should a plebiscite result >n favour of the maintenance of the monarchy, the King’s position, if he returned, would not be pleasant,, owing to the hostility of an important section of his subjects. Tho Monarchists therefore seem inclined to compromise on the Republicans’ basis. They will recognise the Republic provided there are free elections afterwards. Meanwhile tho Government has altered the country’s official tide from tho Kingdom of Greece to the Hellenic State from to-day. Tho customary prayers offered in tho churches for Their Majesties now cease, amd all pictures of Their Majesties a.o to be removed from tie public -offices.—“ The Times.”
