A large gathering of settlers took place at the junction of the Waimanno Retaruke, and Kaitieke-R-auriinu roads on January 22, to witness tne ceremony of unveiling the memorial erected by the people of the district. The unveiling was conducted by’ Colonel Melville, of Palmerston North, assisted by the Rev. Jones, of Raetihi, and the local executive committee, consisting of Messis. Crocker (chairman), Alanson (secretary), Beechy, McLennan and J. Waldegrave. Colonel Melville stayed overnight with Mr. h. U . Beechey, and had an evening s fishing on tho Raririruke stream with good sport.
