DISASTER AT ATHLETIC GATHERING

BOYS INJURED BY BALCONY RAILING COLLAPSING. (Rec. January 20, 11.45 p.m.) New York, January 19. A balcony railing at an indoor athletic meeting collapsed, and 300 boys wore hurled to the floor, seventy being injured, many of them seriously. Six thousand boys nnd their parents crowded a largo armoury building at Brooklyn to wat'-h an inter-scholastic track contest. Several hundred boys filled the balcony, and during an exciting finish in the 440 yards run the youngsters crowded forward on the balcony railing. Tho mothers faintted as. amid shrieks and writhing, the mass cf boys was precipitated into the centre floor. The parents rushed forward, a panic resulting.
