ALLEGED THEFT FROM HOTEL

TWO MEN ARRESTED. During the holidays the übiquitous “sneak thief” proved troublesome to proprietors of several city hotels, and a number of cases of theft were reported. On two occasions yesterday men were arrested on charges of theft from the Royal Hotel, Lambton Quay, and will come before the Magistrate this morning. A few days before Chr.stmas a business man. entered the bay of tho hotel and placed a parcel containing a pipe and tobacco on tho counter of tho bar. He went to speak to a friend a few yards away for a few moments, but on his return the parcel had disappeared from the counter. Detectives Sinclair and Murch yesterday apprehended a middle-aged man in connection with this inc’dent. The second arrest was effected bv Detective Cain as a result of which a young man will come before the Magistrate this morning to answer a charge of stealing an overcoat from the Royal Hotel.
