SUGAR CONTROL
LARGE QUANTITIES HELD IN BOND BUT SHORTAGE ON LONDON MARKET Dr Telegraph—Press Association. —Copyright London, January 17. The “Daily Express” says that great quantities of sugar are held in bonded warehouse- in London, though thero is a shortage on the regular market. Forty thousand' tons of refined sugar are being kept in store for higher prices. The principal syndicate owns thirty thousand tons of bonded sugar under tho control of a Spanish millionaire, who is not recognised as a dealer, but is. just a speculator. Shipments of sugar from Central Europe have been stopped, owing to the freezing of the Elbe, causing a further stringency. It is estimated that if the syndicates sold now tlioy would make a profit of £400,000. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
