Marvellous is the optimism that exists as to the easo with which £70,000 is to be -raised to send American athletes to Europe for the Olympic Games. It is estimated that about 150 competitors. with 175 trainers and assistants will go overseas, and this in the name of amateurism, is estimated at the probable cost. Some part of the. cash is to be raised by the sale of 250 tickets for those tourists who wish to boast of crossing*on the same ship as the athletes, and this it is etimated will produce ’ about £30,01X1; the remainder is to be raised by try-out games admissions,or by the floating of a scheme by which the great American public will be persuaded to finance the undertaking by many small subscriptions. If history repeats itself this means that if £50,000 is desired, a drive must be made for at least £lOO,OOO, as such things cost about 50 per cent, of the gross to handle effectively. Anyhow, the cash will be forthcoming. The rule, if adopted, declaring tennis playeis who write articles for newspapers on the game, will l strike J. O. Anderson, G. L. Patterson, J. B. Hawkes, R. N. Thomas, E. T. Rowe, K. Poulton, L. Gv Addison, H. Rico, H. A. Parker, N. M. Heath, and A. Willard.
