WAIHI GOLD MINES
NEW INDUSTRIAL AGREEMENT. A conference between the representatives of tlie gold mining conlpanies and battery owners and the union of workers to consider the terms of. a new agreement, was opened at Waihi on Wednesday. The men’s principal demands include: (1) That 80 degrees wet-bulb temperature (against 83 degrees) shall constitute a six-hour working place; (2) that any man working night shift be paid 2s. extra per shift; (3) that all wages men and contractors be paid in full fortnightly (contractors now get paid 10s. a day for first fortnight): (4) that any person required to do dirt work connected with boilers, etc., shall be paid 2s. extra per d.nv or part of a day; (5) that any worker employed on a zinc lathe be paid 16s. a day; (6) that there shall be a 10 per cent, increase on all wages received.
