Tho remains of the late Colonel J. R. Purdy, M. 8., C.M., were interred at the Karori cemetery yesterday morning in the presence of a large gathering, which included representatives of the medical fraternity, and military authorities. The funeral, which left thio residence of Dr. Herbert, 16 The Terrace, was conducted by Archdeacon A. M. Johnson, and among the mourners at the graveside were Major-General Sir Edward Cliaytor (General Officer Commanding the Forces), Major-General Sir Donald MoGavin, Major-General Sir Alfred Robin, Lieut.-Colonel H. M. Gard’ner, Lieut.Colonel H. E. Avery, Lieutenant-Col-onel D. Carbery. Captain T. M. Wilkbs. Captain A. E. Conway, Lieutenant G. H. Clifton. The Health Department was represented by Dr. Frengley. There wfere also present numerous friends of the late Dr. Purdy. The Rev. J. G. Ellis, F.R.H.S.. late of Papanui, Cljristchurch, has accepted the call to the ministry of the Unitarian Church, Vivian Street, Wellington, which he took up at the beginning of the year. Mr. Ellis was brought up in the Methodist ministry, from which he seceded a few years ago. Of Into ho has been lecturing on horti cultural and agricultural subjects under the Department of Agriculture and has been conducting the Methodist Orphanage at Pnpanui. Mrs. Ellis hatbeen teaching domestic science al! Rangiorn, which duties she will nob terminate until tho end of tho quarter, when she will go to Wellington. (Mr. Ellis is a native of Ballarat. The death has occurred of Mr Charles Woolford, of Bulls, one of’ New Zealand’s oU colonists. Deceases', was born in 1839 in England. Nearlj 50 years ago lib came to the Dominion in the Edwin Fox with his wife and six children. Mr. Woolford earned the name of “the father of Bulls.’’ In 1909 ho and Mrs. Woolford celebrated their golden wedding. Two years later Mrs. Woolford died suddenly. For the past 18 months deceased had been in indifferent health, and in the last week of 1923 lie was taken to a private bos pital where, after a short illness, b passed away. Deceased leaves 15 ch> ! dren. 34 grandchildren, and 22 greatgrandchildren.
