WORLD POWER CONGRESS WILL N.Z. BE REPRESENTED ? Among matters that are likely to be considered by the Prime Minister on his return to New Zealand is the question whether New Zealand will be represented at the -world congress on hydro-electricity, to be held in London from June 30 to July 12, during the currency of the British Empire Exhibition. The congress was organised originally by the British Electrical and Allied Manufacturers’ Association, but has now become an official one. National committees,, to arrange details, have been appointed in Great Britain, Canada, Australia, India, France, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Holland, Denmark, Rumania, Czecho-Slovakia, Austraia and Greece. It is intended to investigate and correlate matters involved in the devolpment of power throughout the world. The Technical Board includes Mr. Evan Parry, whose association with big electrical projects in New Zealand is so well jknown. Among subjects to be discussed will be the following:— , Power Resources.—The production distribution, utilisation and transmission of power; the attitude of Governments, towards development; 4'i?imary of legislation; financial policy regarding "State and private ownership; State encouragement to the development of cheap power; physical characteristics of developed and undeveloped power used, in electrical generation, industry, land, sea and air transport; national and local administrative responsibilities ; electrical power marketing.

Power Production.—General principles, conditions and requirements in civil, mecha.nica.l and electrical engineering features; preparation of fuels; distillation of coal and shale oil. refining; steam generation and utilisation ; internal combustion engines, power from wind. Transmission and Distribution.— Generators, transformers, switch gear; super-power stations of the future; local « distribution, standardisation; underground and underwater cables; high-voltage current, low-voltage distribution ; research; power transmission and distribution by means of gas ; mechanical transmission of power. Utilisation of Power.—Power for industry and domestic purposes ; mechanic, hydraulic and pneumatic distribution ; power in electro-chemistry and electro-metallurgy; application of heat and electricity : power for transport; transmission to piopellers; recent developments in illumination.
