C. Herbert, and the ewes are all in the N Z. Flock Book, but Mr. Speedy not having taken a transfer when he bought the flock, is not eligible to give transfers. The flock was founded in 1912 by the purchase of ewes from Mr. A. Matthews’s flock (No. 21), and has been supplemented by the purchase of ewes from the flock of Mr. H. A. Matthews (No. 193) in subsequent years up to 1919. Carefully selected rams from the best breeders’ have always been used, and for purely hillgrown sheep that have never had artificial feed, this flock would be hard to beat anywhere.
