NEWS AND NOTES

B.A.W.R.A. STOCKS MISSTATEMENT CORRECTED. The Minister of Agriculture (Hon. W. Nosworthy) wishes to correct a misstatement in the cabled report regarding the stocks of 8.A.1V .R.A. wool, which appeared in the New Zealand papers on Monday last. lhe cablegram made it appear that the quantity in stock and afloat at th© ©nd of the year was 913,215 bales. The total of B.A.W.R.A. stocks held at the end of November last, says the Minister, were as follow:— Bales. Australian 193,000 New Zealand ... 77,000 Total 270,000 Air Nosworthy thinks that the reference to “the end of the year” . may refer to the end of 1922. This is borne out bv reference to Melbourne newspaper files at that period. Early in January, 1923. Sir Arthur Goldfinch. London manager of B.A.WJLA. stated that there were about 900,000 bales then held. The Director-General of the Department of Agriculture states that at the end of December last the total B.A.W.R.A. stocks of wool were 162.000 bales of Australian and 47,000 of New Zealand.
