DISTURBANCE IN TORY STREET
TWO FIREMEN IN TROUBLE. The reason for the congregation of an inordinately largo crowd at the corner of Tory and Vivian Streets at 6.30 p in. on Wednesday was explained in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday morning, when two brothers, Richard and Lawrence Keenan, described as firemen, appeared before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., on charges of drunkenness, using obscene language, and resisting arrest. In evidence, Constable Hedley stated that he had seen-accused arguing .the point with another man m lory Street, and, lieedless of the warning the officer administered, one of them proceeded to remove his coat to settle the difference. Witness then intervened, and with the assistance cf Constable Hodge removed the brothers te the police station; The interference was resented, and utterance was gfven to the words contained on the charge sheet. “No one objects to your taking a little liquor, but do not drink to excess,” advised the Bench. Accused were convicted and discharged for iwBC briety, a > ■ wer-. each fined £2, with tho alternative of going to gaol for seven days on each of the remaining counts
