That the automobile is proving an outstanding instrument of death a* well as a means of pleasure business is indicated by the Census Bureau’s report that 11,066 deaths occurred through motor accidents in the United States in 1922, representing p.n increase of 1499 oyer those in 1921. California’s rate is the highest, being 26 per 100,000 of population. Mississippi is the lowest, with three and two-fifths. Three persons are killed daily through automobiles in New York city, but its rate is only one half that of Los Angeles, which is 291 per 100,000 of population.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
