SECONDARY SCHOOLS TOURNAMENT

RESULTS OF SATURDAY’S PLAY

The weather was almost perfect on the occasion of the second annual secondary schools tennis tournament, held on the Brougham Hill Club. Wellington College. and St. Patrick’s College courts. Although a large number of names were played, it was not possible to get through even to the semi-finals. Tho iunior games were 30 points up, and tllb seniors 40. It will be seen from the results that there were some tall defeats inflicted, as well as very narow victories secured. The following are thb results:— JUNIOR BOYS’ SINGLES.

Wilson and Mrs. G. N. Goldie. Ladies’ singles: Miss Lapworth. Ladies’ doubles: Misses Thwaites and Carrick. RAWS TROPHY. The leading men for the Laws Trophy are: L. W. McGirr 8 games; Messrs. W. T. Harbison, J. Manton, T. S. Williams, and C. F. Williams, 7 games; L. Demuth, 5 games. The leading ladies are: Mrs. Hooper, 7} ; Miss Wild, 6: Miss D. Howe. s}; Misses Corby. N. Tucker, and Treadgold. 5 games each. TAITA CLUB The Taita Club courts were opened on Saturday afternoon in the presence of a largo number of visitors, including many players who journeyed from Wellington for the occasion. In welcoming the visitors, Mr. M. Denniston also thanked the local residents for their generosity in allowing the club tho necessary concessions without which the courts could not have been constructed, and! also for a loan of £5O free of interest. Keen as were the club members when they had only two courts, ho believed they would be heard much and more of with the additional two courts just completed. The club had been generous enough to donate £lO 10s. towards the Miramar scheme.

Tho official set between J. C. Peacock and Miss M. Curtis against L. France and Miss M. Tracy resulted in a win for the latter nair, 6 —5.

Other games were played and resulted as follow:—L. and D. France beat Peacock and Salmond, 7 —5 ; Salmond and Miss Travers beat Melody and Mrs. Melody, 6 —4. In returning thanks for the afternoon. Mr. Peacock said they were the twi. finest hard courts ho had ever played on.
