LUXOR EXPLORATION
FURTHER RELICS FOUND. (Rec. December 2, 5.5 p.m.) London, December 1. The “Albrning Post’s” correspondent at Luxor states that natives on Friday carried the second life-size statue of Tutankhamen from the tomb. Air. Carter superintended every stage of the operations, as it would have been easy to crumble the woodwork to dust. Afr. Carter now has the antechamber cleared readv for the final preparations for dismantling the outer shrine. He is confident that all the shrines and mummy cases will bo cleared from the mortuary chapel in six weeks. The Egyptian Press, still bitterly resents the attitude of the Egyptian Government regarding the distribution of news from the tomb. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable A ssn. (Rec. December 2, 11.40 p.m.) London, December 1. The Exchange Telegraph’s correspondent at Luxor states that Afr. Carter Entered the outer shrine of the mortuarv chapel nnd found a walking stick covered with gold, on which was the name Tutankhamen. He next found four carved sticks covered with gold, but showing little signs' of use. It is also understood that he found two alabaster vases. These things were apparently buried in the belief that tho dead Pharaoh’s earthly spirit needed them during the vigil in the tomb.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
