TERRIFIC RAINSTORMS
VILLAGES SWEPT AWAY (Rec. December 2, 5.5 p.m.) Cairo, December 1. Terrific rainstorms swept av/ay whole villages and rendered hundreds of people homeless in the Assuan region. The railway lines and telegraphs were destroyed. The inhabitants of the flooded, villages are in pitiable distress, lacking food and shelter. The Government is dispatching tents and food from Cairo.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
