THE RACING WORLD

FEILDING AND TAKAPUNA MEETINGS TAMATETE WINS AGAIN The Feilding and Takapuna meetings were held yesterday. At Feilding the speedy Tamatete added another win to his string of successes and Zouave scored in the Manchester Handicap. At Takapuna Boomerday accounted for the Alison Cup and the Cheltenham Handicap was won by Queen March.

FEILDING MEETING ZOUAVE WINS MANCHESTER HANDICAP ("By Telegraph—From “The Watcher.”) Palmerston North, November 30. The Feilding Jockey Club concluded a very successful spring meeting today in brilliant weather. There was a largo attendance, and the racing was good. The principal handicap was won bv Zouave, wha ran on more gonerouslv than in some of his recent efforts. and a sharp improvement in form bv Ngata enabled him to score in the Colvton Handicap. The Oroua Stakes gave Tamatete another opportunity of displaying his brilliancy, and he obtained an easv victory. ‘ The totalisator handled £2-5,136 as against £22.615 on the second day last year, making a total for. th'e meeting of '£48.562. an increase of £3940 on the turnover at the corresponding meeting last vear. During the day incidents connected with the running called for three inquiries. After Ngata had. won the Colvton Handicap, the owner and iockov were questioned on the form shown bv th’e horse, as compared with the first day. The official ■ resolution was that, though the evidence adduced was far from satisfactory. it was not sufficiently conclusive to justify definite action. After the decision of the Nikau Hack Handicap, W. S. Bagby/ rider of Carnbee. was suspended for a fortnight for careless riding, and as a result of incidents in the Rongotea Handicap. H. E. Ryder, who had the mount on Kalakaua., was suspended for a month for crossing and careless ndiup*. CHELTENHAM HURDLES. E.erie was made a firm favoilrite, with support also for Eonmnrk and Autemon.na. The latter took t-hb load from Denmark and Santiago, but she fell heavily at The jump in front of the stand From this point Eerie went to the front nnd won as easily ns she did on the first dnv. beating Sling Camp hv eight lengths. Eonmnrk was a length further off. with Santiago. Battle Song, and Super. Six following. COTjVTON HANDICAP. All twelve acceptors wont to the post in the Colvton Handicap. Listowel was favourite till just on closing time when increasing support camo for Nonin, and lie finished up at tho head of’ the pool, while the next four, in order were all evenlv and well backed. Waipntu dwelt at the start, and Amber Tips was also drifting back. In the first furlong Matareka and Santonio were the leaders from Listowel, Ngata, Good Sport, and Jackeroo. with Snatcher next. This was the order to the straight, when Snatcher had improved his position. Once in line for home, Ngata drew out and won nicolv bv a length from Batcher. who heat Santonin, who ran well, by half a length. Good Spori was fourth, followed bv Happv Davs. March 'Ou. nnd Matareka.. with Listowel last. Ngata was eons derably sharpened iip by his race the first day, when ho was.ninth in order on the -machine. The betting gave a fair indication- that he -would run prominently. Snatcher also ran an improved race, and looks, like being useful this season. Good Sport got out well and had every chance. Listowel got a bad run in the' straight. NOVICE STAKES. Anticipate was made an odds'-on favourite in thkfield of five for the Novice Stakes, and he plainly showed he has tho family gift, of galloping, winning with case bv a couple of lengths from Fire Brigade, who put in a fine finishing run from the rear and beat Rose Martian by a length. Wilderness, who had a lend of some lengths at tho half-mile post, and was still m front at the top of the straight, finished fourth. • MANCHESTER HANDICAP. Diamond Ring was made a. good favourite for the Manchester Handicap. There was a delay at the post chiefly through the fractiousness of Helen

Rufus, and when they were let go Admiral Codrington took charge from Diamond Ring, Alaric, Scotch Mixture, and Zouave. There was no change till turning for home, when Zouave ran to the front and led into the straight from Alaric. Diamond Ring, and Admiral Codrington, the field having closed up. Zouave was kicked out in” tho straight and he came on to win by the best part of a. length from Alaric. Helen Rufus came with a great rattle from the distance into third place in front of Diamond Ring, who was followed by Demand, Trespass, Scotch Mixture, nnd Printemps. Th? places were all filled by _ horses well placed from the start, with the exception of Helen Rufus, who was -racticallv last £wo furjjmgs from home. Demand was another who tame on well from the rear. NIKAU HACK HANDICAP. The scratching of Avola left a field of sixteen to contest the hack sprint event, in which Pantagruel and Sunny Vaio were warm fancies. Pantagruel was slow.to find his feet and wns last after a furlong had been covered, and never afterwards appeared amongst the leaders. Civility hogan quickly and e-1 from Carnbeo_, Cushnt, and Kilns, there being a big bunch handy, in which there. was some bumping. Sunny Vale receiving a set-back. A littlw further on another bunching took place, which sent Cushat right back from a good position. Civility still held the lead entering the straight, and although Kilris Allmarimba, and Treadwell threw out challenges, she won comfortably by a length from Allmarimba, while Sunny Vale came .with a good run on tho outside and was. a neck further off on terms with Kilris. Grace. Cgrnbee l _jyid Treadwell weds close up.” Sunny Vale was unlucky. OROUA STAKES. ’ln tho weight-for-age event Tamatete was made one of the hottest of favourites. Benmure wont with him for half a mile, but Tamatete was ridver at full stretch. Foolish finished well into second place, with. lengths between the placed horses, Solferangi being foui - lengths further back in fourth place, with Benmure. next and Beaumont last. Solferangi did not get away too. well. RONGOTEA HACK HANDICAP. Fourteen runnel's started in the Rongotea Handicap. Cairo was a good favourite, but ho was beaten at the top of the straight after having been the pacemaker. Miss Mickey got the worst of the dispatch, Cairo, Brigadier Bill, and Klothenes comprising the leading division as they went into the back stretch. The pace told cn all the leaders in the straight, wliere Miss Mickey had been taken to the front. Velociform wore her down oiler the last bit, and won by a length. Explorer was four lengths away in front of Elothenos, who was followed by Kalakaua, All Gold, and Stream. Moro patiently handled, Miss Mickey would have been harder to dispose of, and the race was really won by a jockey who was a better judge of pace than any of. the fthers. Cairo also would have finished better had ho not made the early pace so solid. EMPIRE WELTER HANDICAP. Sunny Jim was a warm favourite for the concluding event, with gcod sup, port for Counter Attack, Martulla., Black Cruiser, and Cold Steel. Counter Attack was the leader from Sunny Jim and Matareka, nnd turning for homo tho field hunched, Good Mark and Black Cruiser appearing well up' on the outside of tho leaders, and Matareka was beaten once the straight . was reached, wliere Sunny Jiin drew out. He was at once challenged by Black Cruiser and Martulla, and a fine race home saw the favourite score nicely by half a length from Martulla, who beat Black Cruiser by a neck. Counter Attack was next, followed by Matareka and Halloivroz, with Aeriform last.
