♦ — DISTRICT CONFERENCE. The annual Wellington district conference of the Workers’ Educational Association was presided over by the president of the Wellington' District Council (Mr. L. A. Edwards). In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, the chairman said that, on the whole, the vear could, bo rovicvv’ed with a great deal of satisfaction, but the question of finance continued to be a pressing and important one. for oiying to shortage of funds the work of the association could not be extended to the extent that well-wishers of the movement would like. There was also need for improved organisation and co-ordina-tion and a closer relationship between the university authorities and the association. in order that tho movement could function smoothly, and 1 effectively. Those were matters which wpnld require attention during the incoming vear. The motion was carried. The question of a Dominion constitution was discussed, and it was. decided to forward the decisions arrived at as a remit to the Dominion conference. . , , Tho matter of holding a winter school was referred to the district council, with power to act. as also was a Levin nrouosal that . a district organiser should bo appointed. Palmerston North forwarded a remit urging that tne name should l be changed from Workers’ Educational Association to Adults’ Educational Association, which, after discussion, was reiented. It was agreed that an honorary director of studies be appointed, also a representative to visit. the various classes and report regarding them to the district council. . In order that there might be closer contact between the tutors and tho district council, it was decided to arrange for a tutor’s conference prior to tho annual district conference. It was resolved that full time tutororganisers should furnish a report each month, detailing the organising work that had been done, and at the end of each vear to submit a programme of future work. The election of officers resulted 1 as follows: —President of the district council. Mr. M. J. Forde; vice-president, Mr. B. Yeates: secretary, Mr. D. R. Kennedy: representatives, on the tutorial classes committee. Mrs. Schofield, and Messrs. F. D. Cornwell. B. Yeates and M. J. Forde ; members of the district council, Mrs. Schofield. Messrs. L. Sievers, M. O’Kane. L. A. Edwards. and F. D. Cornwell: delegates to the Dominion conference. Messrs. Rod Ross (Palmerston North). L. A. Edwards and M. J. Forcfe: district representative on the Dominion council. Mr. M. J. Forde.
