OIL DISCOVERY FRAUD
» A “SALTED” WELL GERMAN PROSPECTOR DISAPPEARS Perth, November 29. In connection with the Lake Eva oil discovery swindle, the detective department reports that officers found under the bunk of Robert Rothkehl, the German prospector from whom the syndicate took over the option, a tank containing eighty gallons of oil. and six tins of other oils. From the tank, pines led to the bore where tho samples of oil were obtained. Warrants were issued' for the arrest of Rothkehl and his mate, Thompson, a fortnight ago, on charges of conspiracy to defraud, but both disappeared. When the story of the oil find was first told it was alleged that Rothkehl had received a letter from a scientist in Germany, who, it was alleged. made the find before the war, and being unable to return to Australia. sent the plans to Rothkehl. A company was being formed when the disclosures about the “salting” of the well led to the police investigation. —Press Assn.
