$ FAR-REACHING POSSIBILITIES ‘‘A measure fraught with possibilities of far-reaching effect on industrial development in this Dominion is the Companies Empowering Bill, designed t (> permit of profit sharing by employees of public companies,” stated the annual report presented at the Employers’ Federation meeting yesterday. “In England profit sharing schemes have not proved a panacea for all industrial troubles, though many have been in operation for long terms and Imvo been successful. The settlement of the great English coal strike in 1921 was based on a scheme of profit sharing which, though threatened repeatedly by both sides, is still in effect. The difficulty is that the conditions of work vary in different industries. and hence no scheme can be found which will apply generally to all. It is too early for cpmment on the above legislation m New Zealand, but no doubt many employers will watch it with keen interest.
