CIVIC LEAGUE

The annual meeting of the Ch-ic League was held last night members, attending. The chairman, speaking on the finances, said that the league s work could not be efficiently carried out without a fund of at least £ooo. Discussing the report, he sa'd there would never be modern municipal administiation without appointment of a general manager of the city , to see carried out the policy of the Mayor and councillors, as was the case m the United States of America, Canada, and towns in England, such as Hull. During the past year, rates had gone up 18 P<?r cent., and they were due to go 10 per cent, higher. .
