—4 Tho Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon R F. Bollard' left Wellington by tlie Main 'Trunk express yesterday for Auckland. It is Mr. Bollard’s, intention to spend two or three days in Auckland. Later the Ministe. will leave for the Waikato, and’with the Minister of Agriculture (Hon. W. Noswortliy) will visit the Thames, Bay of Plenty, and Gisborne districts At each of the districts mentioned Air. Bollard will fulfil a number of engagements connected with tho administration of his Departments and, conjointly with Air. Noswcrthy. deal with matters coming within the province of the Lands Department. His Honour Mr. Justice Salmond left yesterday for New Plymouth. The Hou. F. Flowers, M.L.C., of New South AVales, arrived from Sydney by the Maunganui yesterday. Ho is proceeding by tho lonic from Lyttolton, to Montevideo. Mr. T. R. Herd, late Customs inquiry agent for New Zealand rt London, returned bv the R.M.S. Ala.itiraMr Herd is to take up the position ot Assistant-Controller of Customs at Melhngton. Mr. K. H. Tucker of Wellington, lias advised the New Zealand Cricket Council of his acceptance of the position of sole selector of Now Zealand teams for the present season. Air. AV. A. Gray, accountant for the Union Steam Ship Company at Sydney arrived at Wellington yesterday by’ the Maunganui -from Sydney on a holiday trip.

Messrs. A. Al. and G. T. Paterson, of Auckland, are at present in Wellington on a business visit. 'The death occurred at Christchurch on Saturday of Mr. Frank Cooper, for seme twelve years secretary ot the Canterbury Employers’ Association and a prominent statistical adviser of the New Zealand Employers’ Federation. Mr. Cooper was in the employ of Messrs. P. and D. Duncan, of Christchurch. from boyhood, and in 1902 resigned from their service to form the company of Cooper and Duncan, Ltd., of which Air. A. 15. Duncan anu himself were joint managers. The firm took over the implement business of the Southland Engineering Co., at Invercargill, in 1902, and after the death of Mr Walter Guthiie removed the business to Christchurch, building new works and carrying them on successfully f»r some ten years or so. About twelve years ago Air. Cooper retired from the firm and accepted the secretaryship of the Canterbury Employers’ Association. There are few men who have taken a more prominent interest in Arbitration Court work. He loved statistical work and made a. hobby of it and assisted in compiling the employers’ case in tho different bonus contests in the Arbitration Court. About a fortnight ago he appeared as an advocate in the Court. He possessed. good business knowledge, tact, and judgment, and was looked upon as the 'statistician of the New Zealand Employers’ Federation. He compiled' the i’em Book of the Canterbury Employers’ Association. His knowledge of industrial law was extensive, and he was a keen student of human nature. His loss will be as deeply deplored by Labour representatives who came in touch with him as by employers. _ In his younger days he took a prominent part 'in athletics, especially cycling, and wa« a,n enthusiastic si»rtsmau to the last. A widow and two grown-up daughters survive him.
