AUSTRALIAN TOUR The New South Wales Crit'ket Association has accepted the invitation of the New Zealand Cricket Council to send the team to New Zealand shortly. The players will he absent eight weeks, and they will leave after the New South Wales-Victoria match at the ejid of January. The New Zealand Council will pay all the expenses and allowances for twelve players and a manager. Mr. 8. Smith, secretary of. tho Australian Board of Control, which refused to undertake the tour, said New Zealand s action was a plucky one. considering they lost £l9OO on the Englishmen s campaign. “A WILDERNESS” PETONE CRICKET OVAL CRITICISED. A vigorous condemnation of the cricket grounds prepared by the Petone Borough Council for junior players was made in a special report to the Cricket Association by Mr. D. McKenzie last night. “One wicket in particular was covered with docks,” said Mr. McKenzie. “An eyesore on the ground is the long grass—almost a wilderness —which has been allowed to develop because the top-dressina was put on early in the season. In appearance it would disgrace a backblocks ground, and, for tho decent playing of cricket, is out of the question. The fourth-class wicket is practically in the middle of this wilderness. lam told that the grass has been allowed to remain in its present state so as to ensure a good turf for football next season. (Laughter.) In my opinion—and 1 am loth to give it—the junior and fourth-glass wickets should be declared unfit for play until tho long grass is Mr. McKenzie added that tho ground reminded him of a description of a property being offered for sale —rolling downs and undulating. (Laughter.) Maybe, when tho roller got to work, the hills would go into the hollows. The wickets of the Lower Hutt Borough Council were delightful, in contrast.” It was decided to make representations to the Petone Borough Council. HIGH SCORING AT SYDNEY. Sydney, November 25.
