EAST COAST RAILWAYS
QUESTION OF ROUTES. By Telegraph-Press Association. Gisborne, November 24. The Hon. J. G. Coates. Alinister of Public Works, arrived overland fr<m Napier last evening, and. left this morning from the AVaiapu district. Returning to Gisborne on .Monday, tho Alinister leaves for the Urewera Countrv via. Hangaroa. Deputations from local bodies presented district requirements in road and railway jnatters. strongly urging tho authorised Hangaroa route for the railway from Gisborne southwards, in preference to the coastal route now being surveyed. The Alinister declared the nosition required thorough and considerate thought, and not bustle where tho expenditure of a million pounds was involved. It was absolutely essential that care should bo. taken until the surveys were comiileted. He could say no more.
