WELLINGTON INVENTOR’S RETURN. Mr J. F. Bates, inventor and patented of Bates Anti-Back Firing and Auxiliary Air Device, has just returned from Australia in company with Mr. F W. Rankine, a big shareholder ot Bates Safety Back-fire and Vapounser Company, Ltd. The purpose of the trip—to introduce and demonstrate Mr. Bates’s Patent to the fire underwriters and motor owners of Australia—has been enthusiastically fulfilled. The Australian papers have devoted special items to “Mr. Bates’s ingenious invention, which bids fair to banish the danger of petrol fires, arising free beoh-Aree, far aU time”—
