THEY SAY
That Referee Leith was too smart for the Marist back Who obstructed Swain when the Athletic forward proceeded to follow up his kick. A free kick each time is the only way to prevent such tactics. ■ That Wellington is cursed with another team that pays more attention to appeal than to tackling. Marist have joined Poneke’s ranks in the prosecution of this annoying practice, and the sooner both teams drop it tho better. ’ Tnat the Ponoko forwards have a bad habit of standing up arid appealing to the referee when they should be shoving. On several occasions on
Saturday when in a good position near Petone’s line one or two Poneke forwards would be standing up appeal-* ing when their extra weight might have madp all the difference. That to tho great merriment of the other twenty-nine players, a certain policeman, playing in a certain junior team, was warned by the referee last Saturday.. That if referees would put their heads together, and start put on a determined campaign against the player who plays tho man instead of the Ball thev would bp giving Rugby tho biggest lift along it could possibly get. Let the players know that on quarter will bo given for this offence, which is all too frequent in every grade.
