The historical mansion on the Hampton Court Estate, between Hereford and Leominster (England), lias a foundationstone said to have been "well and truly laid" by King Henry IV. while in its famous banqueting hall is a series of paintings of the line of the Coningsby family, owners of the property in the seventeenth century. The estate, which is to be sold, comprises nearly 5500 acres. Hampton Court was built by Rowland Leinthall, a favourite of Henry IV., who married a lady connected with the King, and so acquired lands and consideration. He added to his wealth by the ransom of many prisoners of rank taken at Agincourt. The house was ahead of the times in construction, having a large cistern on the roof, fed by a stream conducted from the hill above.
