A New Zealand Novelist.
Writing to a friend in Wellington, Miss Rosemary Rees states that her first essay on novel-writing has been accepted by the Herbert Jenkins Publishing Company of London. The title of tho book is “April’s Sowing,” and it will bo 'published in October. Miss Rees is naturally elated with her success, and intends to plan a.successor. She is still a member of the Lawrence Grossmith Company, playing in Melbourne, and when she opened the telegram conveying the good news, rehearsal was in full progress, but she simply had to shout the news to Mr. Grossmith on the stage and all her friends around her. Miss Rees says that she had the pleasure of lunching with Lady Forbes Robertson (Mrs. Gertrude Elliott) and lost her heart to the visitor at onco. “She is one of the most charming personalities I have ever met,” writes Miss Rees. “If she goes to New Zealand you will have a real treat in her performances.” Miss Rosemary Rees is tho daughter of the late Mr. W. L. Rees, barrister, and formerly M.P. for Gisborne. She has written several act plays, which have been produced in England and elsewhere. She toured the Dominion last year with “The Mollusc,” and was last here with Mr. Grossmith in “Captain Applejack’s Adventure.”
A quiet wedding took place at St. Peter’s, Wellington, on June 6, when Miss Ambrosine Victoria Briggs, of Christchurch, was married to Mr. Victor William Stewart, of Masterton. The bride was given away by her brother, s£r. James Henry Briggs, of Otaki, and Mrs. James McAndrew, of Wellington, sister of the bride, was matron of honour, with a niece of the bride, little: Alma McAndrew, as bridesmaid. The bridegroom was attended by MrHarry Mason, as best man. The bride’s dress was a grey coatfrock trimmed with Oriental beads, with hat to match, the reception was held at Dustin’s, and the happy couple left by the ferry boat for Christchurch, where the honeymoon will be spent. Weddings to be artistic must have Bouquets to harmonise with frocks. Miss Murray, 36 Willis Street. Deliveries anywhere in Dominion. —Advt.
