FROSTY WEATHER
SUNSHINE AND FOG “We left Lyall Bay at 8.30 o’clock, bathed in sunshine, but as soon as we got over the Constable Street hill we struck a cold fog with a real nip in it,” was the complaint of one Lyall Bay resident yesterday. So marked was the difference between the radiant sunshine and the blue skies at the seaside and the dense fog and murky sky over the city that he felt inclined to take French leave and return home.
This fog bank was ’ peculiar. It enveloped the city from Newtown to Kaiwarra, but immediately to the north the atmosphere was clear and the sun was shedding gladness all around. People left sunny homes at Hutt and Petone to run into a oold fog-bank between Kaiwarra and Nghauranga. The fog was accompanied by a slight frost. Tuesday proved beautifully fine, but the temperature never rose in the shade.
