EASTBOURNE

MEETING OF BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The last meeting of the present Borough Council was held at Eastbourne on Thursday, the Mayor (Air. F. H. Alather) in the chair, and the following attending: — Councillors C. A. Alarquis, C. Green, C. Hartridge, H. AfcGill H. D. Bennett, H. Shortt, and T. Giles. The general manager’s report stated that the remaing three tennis courts had be;n top-dressed and should be readv for use next week-end.

Traffic returns in connection with the ferry service showed that during the past month 68,320 passengers had been carried across tli£ harbour, a decrease of 3421 on the corresponding period last vear. The Duchess made 109 round trips, travelled 1635 miles, and consumed 84J tons of coal. The Cobar travelled 2430 miles during 162 round trips, and usad up 77 tons of coal. The Cobar’s propeller was showing considerable signs of wear, and an expert had visited Wellington during the period tho vessel had been on the slip, and had recommended certain improvements. A resolution was carried that an order be placed immediately for a new propeller, as recommended.* Easter Alonday was' a good day for traffic, over 3000 passengers being carried on that day. The following nominations for nine seats on the council were received yesterday:—Charles Bowden, Edward Alexander Dawson, Cecil Harbridge, Oscar Hull-Brown, Harry Aforgan Jones, Henry Joseph Lovy, Caesar.
