Tho Minister of Lands and Railways (Mr. Guthrie) will be present at the of the Bruce Park at Hunterville to-day. He will return to Wellington to-morrow. The Minister of Labour and Marine (Mr. Anderson) is expected to return to Wellington on Wednesday morning. Mr. Herbert James Bathgate, Superintendent of the Borstal Institute. Ho took a. great interest in his charges, and always was striving to improve their social and physical conditions. Mr. P. Gilfedder, of Invercargill, who has been attending the sittings of the Native Appellate Court, left for ■tho south last night. Mr. Evan Parry, engineer-in-chief of tho English Electric Company, London, arrived in Wellington by the Tainui. He has come to New Zealand to attend tho official opening of the (electrification of Arthur’s Pass Tunnel, and will remain in New Zealand for about three months. The Gity Engineer (Mr. W. H. Morton), who has not been in robust health for a long time past, has been ordered by his medical attendant to cense work. In order that ho may have a period of perfect rest he entered tho Bowen Street Hospital on Sunday evening.

Staying at the Midland Hotel is Mr. W. McKenzie Jeffrey, New Zealand manager and engineer for tho Hume Pipe Company, of Australia and New Zealand. Mr. Jeffrey has recently arrived from Australia for the purpose of establishing factories throughout Now Zealand for manufacturing reinforced concrete pipes. Mr. Jeffrey states that nothing definite has yet been decided where the respective factories will be located-, but there is every probability that one will be situated in Wellington, provided a suitable site can bo procured. The death occurred at Wellington Hospital on Sunday, following a serious operation, of Mr. John Patrick Callaghan, secretary of the Stage Employees’ Union, and for some time secretary of the New Zealand Federation of Stage Employees. He saw service with the 2nd Otago Regiment, and was universally popular, especially among the staffs of the various theatres in Wellington and Auckland. Ho was born in New South Wales, where his parents had interests in Wyalong. The funeral will leave St. Anne’s to-day at 2 o’clock for Karori Cemetery.
