The Prime Minister (Mr. Massey) attended the races at Trcntham on Saturday afternoon. In the evening he left for Christchurch. Mr. Donald Robertson, ex-Public Service Commissioner, and Mrs. Robertson, will leave on a visit to England by tho Rotorua on June 4. It is their intention to be absent from New Zealand for between eighteen months and two years. Superintendent J. J. Cassels, of the police force, Christchurch, is a visitor to Wellington. Mr. Leys, chairman of directors of the New Zealand Press Association, is' a passenger by the Ulimaroa, which left Sydney- on Saturday for Auckland. Mr. O. B. Walker, one-time manager of the Remington and Roneo Company, was recently admitted a solicitor of the Supremo Court by His Honour Sir Robert Stout, on the motion of Mr. H. E. Anderson. A presentation was made to Mr. Archibald Wilson, of the Waterworks Department of the City Council, on Friday afternoon on tho occasion of his voluntary retirement after 44 years’ service. Mr. George Tinney, foreman, in making the presentation, which consisted of a Morris chair and a case of pipes, referred to the long and faithful service rendered to the council by Mr. Wilson. After having served sixty years in the employment of the firm, Mr. E W Gibbs has just retired from the staff of Messrs. E. W. Mills and Co. On Friday evening ho was entertained at tho Commercial Travellers’ Club, and presented with a token of esteem by tho members of the staff. Mr George H. Turton, manager fo’, \ustralia and New Zealand of the Royal Insurance Company. Limited, who has been attending a meeting of the council of tho New Zealand Fire and Marine Underwriters’ Association field in this city Inst week, left for Wanganui, en route for Auckland, on Saturday. Mr. Turton, accompanied bv his daughter, will sail for Australia on the Niagara on Saturday next.
