AMERICAN SHIPPING

GOVERNMENT TO REMAIN IN BUSINESS UNTIL LINES CAN BE SOLD By Telegraph.— pnnss association. —Copyright. (Rec. April 15. 5.5 p.m.) Washington, April 14. Following a conference between President Harding and the Shipping Board, it is announced that the Government will remain in the shipping business until it can sell its lines without unjustifiable, loss. The statement declared that with the failure of the Subsidy Act the Shipping Board was confronted with a vast possession of ships and heavy losses. Under the existing plan of allocated operation under managing agents, the board will proceed to consolidate the foreign trade lines and then offer for sale these ships on suitable guarantees of a maintained service. If such sales cannot be made without an unjustifiable sacrifice of ships, then the Government will proceed to direct that the Government operation bo aggressively pursued,— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
