WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE SATURDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES On Saturday a sale of National Bank shares at £6 12s. was made on ’Change, and a sale of Union Bank shares at £l4 Bs. was reported. Business was active in the past week. 27 sales having been recorded. The demand during the week was mainly for bank sharps. There has been an excellent turnover in Bank of New Zealand. National Bank, and Union Bank shares, prices for which have risen sharply since the Easter holidays. Market rumours are to tho effect that fresh issues of shares are to be made by tho banks named. Such rumours, however, are of constant occurrence, ’('ho upward movement may be due to tho probability of increased dividends. The 4| per cent, stocks and bonds were in demand on Saturday at £97 2s. Gd. to £97 ss. The 5 per cents, and 5} per cents, werp unchanged. National Bank shares were in demand nt £0 125., which represents an advance of 2s. Od. on tho week. Bank of New Zealand shares advanced Is. Gd. during the week, and were in demand on Saturday at £2 18s. 3d. Bank of Now South Wales were wanted at £37 155., which was tho first buying quotation recorded last week. At the beginning of last week Union Bank shares were in demand at £l4 3s. 6d., and on Saturday were sold at £l4 Bs. Shares of financial companies were firm but unchanged. National Mortgage shares were in steady demand all through the week at £3 155., and Wellington Trust Loan shares were also steady at £5 14s. Dalgety and. Co’s shares, which at the beginning of the week were in demand at £l2 55., subsequently rose to. £l2 7s. Gel., and remained firm at this price. Gas shares were in good demand, and business was done in Wellington Gas shares at £ll 155., and 1/s. for the respective issues. Insurance shares experienced a firm market all through the week, and showed a rising tendency. National Insurance shares at £3 16s. 3d. advanced Is. 3d., New Zealand and South British were firmer, tho former at 28s. 6d., and tho latter at 375. 9d. Standard Insurance advanced 9d. to £1 15s. Except for a sale of Gear Meat shares at £2 55., meat shares have been quiet and neglected. Huddart-Parkcr and Union Steam preference shares were quiet, with values unchanged. Woollen shares were quiet, but Wellington Woollen preferential shares changed hands during the week at £9 2s. Coal shares have received more atteia'on- West-' port Coal shares at 385., show an advance of 9d. on t«he week, and laupin ordinary shares have been very.firm at 20s 9d. Timber shares were in good demand, but sellers were scarce. Crown- Brewpry shares at 425., were Is. dearer. N.Z. Drug Company’s shares advanced Is. 6d. to £3, Milson’s Cement shares at 255. 6d., were Is. 3d. higher on the week. Saturday’s luring and selling quotations were as follow: —
