J. C. M. Lewis, the famous Cambridge and Cardiff halfyback ( told a charming storv of a certain writer who, from the context, appears to be a Welshman. Ho says: “I still remember one critic who gave a certain player decidedly more than he deserved. He credited this sportsman with two wonderful tries, said he was tho outstanding player on the field, was certainly worthy of recognition in the approaching trial match —and all the time this budding international was safe in his home with a boil on his neckl” J
The popularity of Rugby football in South Eastern France may bo judged . by the fact that the gate money for tho France-Glamorgan match amounted to 101,000 francs, more than 15,000 spectators being present. The population of Toulouse itself is only 160,000, but enthusiasts came in from-wieighbouring towns and even from remote centres. It was only the second game in ten years which had taken place outside Paris, but in the future the “experiment” may be repeated.
