FROM OHB OWN CORRESPONDENT. Creytown, April It. Winter weptlier has been experienced here for some days. Light snow fell in the town, and there ha® been heavy rain with a cold southerly wind. Toda v we had a sharp frost, and a heavy coating of snow is on the higher ranges. , The Greytown Mount Hector tourist Club have all the heavy timber on the site for the suspens e* bridge to be put over the Tauherentkau River at the foot of Mount Reeves. The Government are to provide the transoms and planking, and when that is packed up, all will be ready for erection. The large number of hampers that went over at Easter shows the urgency of this work, and jt also brinn-s into prominence the necessity for more hut accommodation. M hen the Grevtown Club get the money the huts will be enlarged, and ft is hoped the Government will give to the club or one of the chibs interested, the necpssarv funds to make requisite accommodation, otherwise there may be more disasters. The Hector Hutis most urgently needed, and should be the first call. In connection with this it has been suggested when the men are at Hector or nearby a couple of aeod “dugouts” should be made on the"eastern side of Hector, so as to give shelter to any party caught in a storm there. ... The fruit industry is growing apace. Sevctal small areas have recently changed, hands, the new holders purposing putting the land down in small fruits'. The large anple orchards have just about picked all the fruit for the season. This is an occupation that cmplovs a large number of bands. At one time one of the orchardist® had 52 pickers busily engaged. I lie. soil here is capable of avowing nil sorts of stone and pip fruit as well as small fruits, such ns uoosebcrries, raspberries, black and red c”rrants, etc It is believed that this industry will' assume very largo proportions id the near future.
