WITH RUGBY LEAGUE There was a crop of applications, supported by the attendance of the candidates, before the Wellington Rugby Union last night, of tootbailers who sought readmission to the amateur Rugby code, after playing under League rules. A metropolitan player, who played tho League code, attended, and applied for readmission to the amateur code. Tho chairman, after questioning the candidate, informed him 'that the New Zealand Rugby Union had closed down on readmissions, but that the Wellington Union had asked that decision be reopened. The applicant said he had paid all his own expenses with the League, even on two tours to Auckland. He said he was. very anxious to get back into the game, and would cheerfully await consideration of his case. The chairman: You are prepared to submit to these conditions? “Betcher,” replied the candidate, who withdrew, smiling. Another candidate, who said he was “fed up” with the League, sought readmission, saying that he, too, paid his own expenses. The chairman: Were you a “rep.” ?
